Recovering

Getting better.

Wow, I woke up this morning with my cold much, much better. It is indeed a benevolent universe! I'm staying in bed today and will not post again until I fully recover my creative powers, modest though those be.

Until then here's a pretty song.

Nice photo of you in the mirror, and yesterday's was a classic post despite your cold

8:19 in the time machine. That was fun. Hey Tom, that recent video with Pigpen doing "Hard To Handle," where's that from?

Tommy said...

Thanks Mary, and Tim that HTH is from a 1970 Family Dog festival, somewhere in southern California.

Tommy, I finally had a chance to read your story about finding your long-lost brother, and it brought tears to my eyes. So many family mysteries and secrets! My family, also....I'd just been thinking about writing down our remaining family mythology for my granddaughter, and now I know I have to do it. Thank you. You write beautifully.

Why not try manhunt or gay.com??

Anonymous said...

Hope you're feeling better. We all miss your posts.

Anonymous said...

Hey Tommy,
hurry up and post more...you have been sick long enough...we need our tommy devine online journal fix!

LarryK4 said...

Yeah, you're letting us rookies have the playing field all to ourselves.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone who knows him personally called or visited him to make sure he is ok? Some of his writing of late would seem to suggest he was feeling depressed. Just a thought...

Anonymous said...

Has anyone seen or heard from Tommy over the last week? Andy, are you out there? Stop by his house and make sure he's allright. Most unlike him to go this long between posts.

Anonymous said...

I sent him an email, and called him on tuesday 10/9
as of yet, no answer.

Anonymous said...

Oh where, Oh where has Tommy gone? Seriously, someone should stop by his house.

Bill Dusty said...

If you know his residential address, and no one lives nearby, have the local PD stop by.

LarryK4 said...

Amherst PD is more than willing to knock on his door. We just need his address!

They already ran his name and nothing turned up under car accidents, recently hospitalized...or worse.

Anonymous said...

Found this number on a whois search for his old site: (413) 783-8129

Registered at:

Devine, Thomas

106 Breckwood Blvd.
Springfield, MA 01109 US

Anonymous said...

Yeah but he moved to Amherst. The population in Amherst is so transient because of the colleges, that it is impossible for the PD to keep track of who is in the town. Tom would have registered to vote though, so I bet the information is available at the town hall.

Bill Dusty said...

Also, which college does he work at? They should have his residential address. (The police know all this.)

A friend of mine has left a message with Tom's brother also.

Tony said...

If someone gets his address they might just want to go over there themselves, maybe having the PD knock on his door isn't the best idea...

Bill Dusty said...

The most important thing in a missing person situation is quick action. If the police are closest, they should be called to go there. Now is not the time to be worried about a roach on the table.

Bill Dusty said...

Also,

Tommy is a walker. He loves to walk around the trails and paths in and around Amherst.

Bill Dusty said...

No one can seem to get a hold of his brother or sister, either. Is it possible they went on a trip somewhere? Perhaps west to see their other brother?

Anonymous said...

His newly found brother has Mantel Cell Lymphoma. Maybe, they all went to a funeral. I hope not but it is a possibility. He posted this in the last of the long lost brother posts.

Anonymous said...

His posting of August 26, 2007 gives some clues to where Tommy lives. The photo of the trash can has "868" on it, which could be 868 North Pleasant Street. The mailbox with the number "977" is even a better hint -- there seems to be only one property number 977 in Amherst, which is also on North Pleasant Street. The property cards for both of these seem to indicate that they are student rental properties. The neighborhood is in the vicnity of North Village and Crestview Apartments. Yes, I'm more or less a 'townie'.

Tom moved to his new address in june...when was the picture taken?
when we last heard from Tom....it was very hot out...does anybody know where he goes to swim ?

LarryK4 said...

Not to be morbid but Gazettenet is reporting a suicide by hanging at Smith College Bridge. Confirmed that it is NOT Tommy.

sodafixer said...

How about someone setting up a page and posting the address here, while we can, in the event that this site is no longer accessable. we can still brainstorm on the whereabouts of Tom, we can delete the page after we find Tom safe and sound (hopefully soon)

Bill Dusty said...

Somebody at the Amherst forum on Masslive said they saw him this past week in town. He said if he sees him again, he'll tell Tom we're looking.

LarryK4 said...

timmyt is a dweeb (Amherst seems to attract them). I would not take too seriously anything he reports.

sodafixer said...

I just read in Toms blog he once went swimming at puffers pond, does anybody know where that is, and does anyone out here live near there? maybe they can take a walk around the pond area. Just a thought.

Bill Dusty said...

Jeff, this site should be fine. Blogger is free, and God knows it already has thousands of old blogs on it.

Alternatively, I put up a post at my "Earth to Bill" blog.... http://earthtobill.blogspot.com/

Donna Schneider said...

My name is Donna and I am Tom's sister. I'm the youngest in the family and one of the twins. I just want to let you know that Tom is safe and just like he says, he is recovering. I can assure you that as soon as he feels well enough to start blogging again, he will. Your thoughts and concerns for his well being are greatly appreciated but rest assured that Tom is fine. Thanks again for your kindness!

Bill Dusty said...

Well, that's good to hear. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Feel better soon Tom.

tony said...

Tommy.I'm Impressed.So Much Good Feelings&Concern.I hope All Is Well.Regards
Tony

Anonymous said...

Tom, can't you give us just a little something?

I fear that Tom may be "recovering" from something a little more serious than a "cold".

LarryK4 said...

He will be back. Amherst would be ever so much weirder without him.

Tim said...

Whoa- Oh, what I want to know-Oh, Where did Tom D Go?

Anonymous said...

Ok, I think we need to restart the search here.

3 weeks and not a single peep from Tom. Recovering from a "cold"???

How do we even know that is really his sister?

Anonymous said...

actually I was thinking the same thing, but figured everyone would say I was paranoid!

Anonymous said...

I don't care what anyone says, I'll continue to think positive thoughts and check in periodically. I live North of Boston and read his blog all the time. I was getting really worried. I was happy to see the concern from other readers.

If you read this, take care Tommy.

Anonymous said...

It is time to start the search again. It's been 22 days without a post! I've never had a cold go that long. Could it be he's given up on us?

LarryK4 said...

Key word is "recovering".

Think about it (Hint: it has nothing to do with a cold)

Anonymous said...

That's what I thought.

I'm guessing with Tom's experience with certain substances, that maybe this "cold" will be gone in 30 days.

Anonymous said...

Stop speculating. It serves no good purpose and may in fact not be something he wants spread around, if true and certainly not if it isn't.

Anonymous said...

Tom has made his life for 10 years an open book. He is a celebrity in Western Massachusetts, and probably beyond!

For someone to post almost every day and then suddenly stop is strange, especially if he is blaming it on a cold.

But when you blog your life, there will be speculation. What really happened with Andy? Where will Tom move to now? What happened to his long lost brother? ...

sodafixer said...

I think colonel mustard did it with a wrench, in the library!

Anonymous said...

i don't think he has ever gone this long without posting. something doesn't seem right.

Bill Dusty said...

Actually, I believe Tom only started posting every one or two days when he started up his Blogger account (this blog). Before that, I think he mostly posted stories only about once a week or so.

Tim said...

You know, Tom is 50 or almost. It could be one of those mid life crisis things going on. It happened to friends. Obviously there had been some recent turmoil in his life. Could have just up and left on some trip and only told those he works with. Eventually, we'll know. Send him positive thoughts and prayers.

Tony said...

He's been like 'The Truman Show' of western mass. He needs a break, who can blame him? I'm sure he'll be back. I'm sure he's fine.

Anonymous said...

reading this sh!t is better than reading his blog!!!

Hello all!

Hey Tom,

Just your old pal from the deserts of eastern Washington letting you know that I'm thinking about you. I hope everything is ok - let us know whenever you can.

Ok.

No joking. Has anyone spoken to or seen Tom in the last 30 days?

sodafixer said...

Not I

Anonymous said...

used to always see him the UMass library at a computer in the basement but I have not in at least the past month.

Anonymous said...

30 Days - Could it be rehab? Let's hope that it isn't something more sinister. Days aren't the same without his thought provoking posts.

Anonymous said...

Mary, Bill or anybody, has ANYBODY had any contact with Tom?

I hate to say it, but has someone check the obits?

dominique said...

Maybe he's waiting until after the elections next week.

Bill Dusty said...

There has been contact with his family, so he is not missing. Stay tuned.

Anonymous said...

Bill - could you let us know if he's ok?

Bill Dusty said...

As soon as I hear anything (beyond rumor), I'll pass it on. Or maybe he'll just pop in and say "What the heck??" himself ;-)

Anonymous said...

bill knows something that we don't...

Anonymous said...

bill is tom's latest "roommate"?

Bill Dusty said...

LOL
No, that is not it.
Right now, I don't know anything more than you folks do.

Anonymous said...

OK - the election came and went and no Tommy. Springfield has elected another "Albano" clone and no Tommy. We miss you so....

Anonymous said...

or maybe Tommy is "anonymous"

Anonymous said...

or maybe this is just getting old and boring...

Tim said...

Here's another thing Tommy couldn't resist writing about. Grateful Dead weekend at UMass. Would have been interesting to see what he had to say. Its this weekend BTW.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone considered that mabey Tommy realised that this blog was taking up too much of his life, and instead of waisting another precious moment in front of a glowing computer screen he has decided to get out there and enjoy. People expect a blog and mabey he is sick of being a slave to the people.

Anonymous said...

All we're asking for is a little closure.

A good-bye message would be appropriate.

sodafixer said...

nice thought, however I know Tom, outside of the blog world, and I can assure you this is deeper than that.

Anonymous said...

Deeper than what exactly?

Is he ok?

I think just one post, either saying "goodbye" or "stay tuned" would be nice.

Michaelann Bewsee said...

Tommy, thinking of you and hope you'll be able to be back in touch with us soon.

Anonymous said...

Happy Thanksgiving Tom, wherever you may be.

sodafixer said...

Im sure Tom will have one hell of a story for us when he comes back!
