Art Show

Student Union Gallery.

Some local artists have been complaining lately that they don't get enough coverage. So I figured I'd do my bit to set things right by visiting the art gallery in the UMass Student Union. The art on display was a self-described "Midway Exhibition" meaning a mid-semester show by UMass MFA graduate students.

I like these psychedelic splats by Deb Karpman.

Also delightfully trippy was this painting by Geoffrey Miller. It resembles a special effects still from a science fiction movie.

By far the most accomplished artist was Mica Pillemer, whose sleeping lady paintings on technical ability alone blew away everybody else in the gallery.

At the other extreme was Kim Hennery's "Family Portraits" whose art looked like she had simply hung her laundry on the wall.

Oh well, whether good or bad it's always worthwhile to check out what today's student artists are up to.

My sister Donna got a gift certificate to Andiamo's greek restaurant in downtown Northampton as part of a reward for some environmental work she's been doing. Having pity on her poverty-stricken brother she gave it to me.

I went there and liked it. Inside it looks sort of New Yorkish.

Check it out when you get a chance.

This morning I came across this weird frozen puddle on the ground in Northampton. It looks like a spider web. To get the full effect, click on the photo to enlarge it.

To preserve those waves required a perfect combination of wind, vibrations and temperature over time that is both delicate and rare.

Finally only those with a heart of stone cannot love this song by the Boston band Aerosmith.

Great Video! They don't describe gender in detail: could be a man singing about his women or a womym singing about her womyn or Tommy singing about...

Love conquers all. And while we're at it, lets pray for Patrick Swayze. 'Unchained Melody' also said it spectacularly.

I bonded with someone over that song and the relationship ended badly. So to this day I haven't been able to really stop and listen to the song. Too bad.

Funny how that happens.
