What we really were doing was making a movie, one we thought would be shown on the big screen.

It was us in the bus, stopping along the way, interacting with the people, interjecting ourselves into the drama that was taking place-- there's always a drama going on, everywhere all the time, street corners, bus stops, bars, gas stations.

The difference was, we were high on LSD, something no one knew about in those days. Our bit was to be positive, friendly, accepted. It is not universally known but the Merry Band of Pranksters was actually a band. We all played instruments and joined in with musicians we met along the way.

So we taped and filmed it all. But we ran into a roadblock in the editing. Couldn't mate the sound and pic, huge job. Over the years, Kesey said, many tried to climb that mountain but all have failed.

Finally, in the 90's when we were doing the musical play, Twister, and videotaping everything, we learned non linear editing on the computer. And finished parts one and two of the bus movie entitled, The Intrepid Traveler and His Merry Band of Pranksters Look For A Kool Place. We sold the movies, as vidies, on VHS, over our website. Kesey died before we completed the final installment.

It was a commercial enterprise from the beginning, not a home movie, not a youtube thing. Zane sells the movie, now DVD, on his website.

When the guy who bought the rights to Tom Wolfe's book came to talk to Kesey about making the movie, Kesey said Tom Wolfe and I agreed, Tom would do the book, I would do the movie. Well, now Kesey's gone and the movie of EKAT is in the works, be interesting to see how it comes out. Babbs

-- My brother has made amazing a thing, at the Russian school for the first time will be presented One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I and my brother (we Chechens) create here something like... Zane Kesey has told "Our hope is to enlighten people of their psychedelic past, and to enable them to learn about the people who brought them to the present".

Your faithfully, Salah Beziev.

http://www.skypilotclub.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
