This is not a comment on the musics or the musicians themselves, but about the cultural judgment that has become attached to them: that VU is darker and more sexually knowing than GD. OK, so regarding the 'dark' claim, just compare Lou asking (perhaps responding to George Harrison) "Who Loves The Sun?" to Garcia screaming, "You know he had to die!", or lamenting, "Death Don't Have No Mercy", or grinning, "Take my advice, YOU'd be better off dead." And, who is sexually wiser: boot-kissing, lashed Lou, or Pig Pen taunting other guys after stealing their women? Which is 'darker', pessimism or fatalism? And which is 'sexier', masturbation or fucking?Don Schneierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12751277350617015241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023556716422736970.post-33181216231158811602009-03-05T09:41:00.000-05:002009-03-05T09:41:00.000-05:00Hey Tom,Fountains of Wayne came out with an album ...Hey Tom,

Fountains of Wayne came out with an album a few years ago called "Welcome Interstate Managers." Its got a beautiful song on there called "Valley Winter Song," and its about the old Baystate Hotel club days and Northampton. Great tune. Actually, its the album with "Stacy's Mom." Very good "album." (Showing my age). I saw The Waynes opening up for the "Smashing Pumpkins" at the Mullins Center when I took my son and his friends to the concert. He was 13. He's 26 now. Oh God. AM I old?Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06791832109113968376noreply@blogger.com
