The other day I was walking near the Stop&Shop in Hadley when I spotted this odd green thing leaning against the curb.
Upon closer inspection, I saw that it was this strange looking bug.
Really strange. It was lying beneath a street light, so I assumed it had probably crashed into the light and killed itself. That happens to bugs a lot, since they usually use the sun and moon to navigate. Artificial lights confuse them, and they often crash into them. The force of impact plus the heat of the bulbs are often enough to kill them.
Either that, or they fly in futility in circles around the light, unable to navigate themselves away from it, until they fall to the ground from exhaustion. On closer inspection that is what appeared to have happened to this creature. It was still alive, but slow and groggy as though exhausted.
In that state the bug was in grave danger, since all it would take was for a bird to spot him and it would be curtains. I found a little stick nearby and used it to make the bug lie flat, the better to see its markings. Dig those weird eye-marks!
I continued on my way, and have no idea what became of the bug. Most likely it ended up as a bird's lunch. Can anybody tell me what kind of bug it was?

I am going to check out the places you've found. I've lived in the area for a long time and have not seen the houses you've recently shown. But, I have seen the Luna moth.. They are really beautiful.
I did a little digging about "Presence". Is it at 29 Hitchcock Road? There was a municipal lien on the property and it looks like Amherst College Trustees took it over in 1998. It is amazing that they have done nothing with it since then. The fact that they can sit on such valuable real estate and undertake gargantuan projects like the one near the track on Rt. 9, makes me feel so poor and "ruled over". Does Amherst College offer any percs to locals? Amherst College also seems to own another a amazing property on Southeast St. It is also uninhabited. It is on the Right if you are heading towards South Amherst. It is up on a big hill where the field is kept cut. I have driven up the long drive to discover an Amherst Town policeman guarding the place in his car. Perhaps you should take some shots of it?
