Kennedy in Town

The woodland way into downtown Northampton was a mottled mix of sunrays this morning.

Upon arriving in the well, sorta teeming metropolis, I spotted a crowd on the corner.

Who is that masked man the crowd is gathering around?

Why it's Joe Kennedy of the legendary Massachusetts Kennedy's, campaigning for U.S. Senate!

He seemed like a really nice guy.

I hope he wins the Democratic primary in September, but not because he's a nice guy. It is because his opponent, incumbent Senator Edward Markey, is the fanatical co-author of the socialist blueprint commonly referred to as the Green New Deal. Critics complain that Joe Kennedy is too young and inexperienced to be effective, but I would prefer an ineffective liberal to a seasoned, experienced Senator like Markey who could actually get things done in enacting the leftist agenda.

Of course, what I will ultimately do is cast a vote in November for whomever the Republicans nominate, although I have no illusions that they will have any chance of winning. Sadly, whoever wins the Democratic primary will essentially become the Senator.

Yet, Northampton is not without Republicans, as proven by the 1,870 Northampton voters who supported Donald Trump in 2016. They are still active too, as evidenced by this slogan scrawled in the main intersection of the Florence section of Hamp. That must have been chalked late at night, because during the day that is a very busy intersection.

Political activism of a sort not designed to survive past the next cloudburst. On that thought, I leave you with these peaceful raindrops that fell yesterday in Easthampton.

Thanks Apart from being happy to see photos of familiar locations from my past, I'm also delighted to see there are still Conservatives in Western Mass.

Is that "Pizza Factory" in the center of Florence? If so, that looks like what used to be where we would get our Sunday paper. Again, if that's the corner I'm thinking it is, there was a liquor store around that corner, where when I went in with my dad, the proprietor would give me a purple lollypop.

I can't remember the cross street, but one going through the middle of the photo should be Rt9, if I'm oriented correctly.

Anyway, thanks again for the photos.

OK, no. This (from another of your posts) is probably the block I'm thinking of, and it has a parking lot out back, just as I recalled.

OK, I'll stop pestering you now.

Massachusetts needs another Kennedy like it needs a hole in the head.

Hey Tom, did you read the new-ish book about the Danny Croteau murder? "Death of an Altar Boy."

Truly difficult to read but nonetheless important. I wonder if you have any insights into the story. For example, I think you said once that you were in the same Boy Scout troop with Danny, right? So was Ed Veroneau the scoutmaster? Cause he was a big pedo.

Springfield was truly infested in those days. I'd like to think that the rot has been cleared out but...I am not entirely sure.

Suspicion fell on a few of the adults in that troop. Myself, I never saw anything suspicious, even though Lavigne often appeared at our meetings. I don't think Lavigne is the one who killed Danny, but I suspect he knows who did and may even have set up the meeting between Danny and his killer. I believe the truth will out someday, because somebody, somewhere knows something that will crack the case.
