Last week I stopped by the Hampshire Mall in Hadley.
It has two main anchor stores, J. C. Penney....
....and Target.
Each are located at opposite ends of the Mall, and do pretty good business, but in between there are lots of empty spaces and not much foot traffic.
The Food Court was less than lively.
However, the movie theater located in the center of the Mall still draws customers.
The truth is, the lack of activity I experienced in the Mall has a lot to do with the time of year. When the UMass and other Five College students are around, they flock to the Mall. I'm sure if I stop by again in September, things will be much livelier.
In the meantime, everything is still sick in downtown Northampton.
Portrait of Johnny Winter by the late, great Northampton artist Greg Stone ("Stoney" to his friends).
He also did the famous Northampton owl sculpture on Main Street. Sadly, he died of cancer in 2016.
Somewhere off the coast of Massachusetts.
