Maydays

A scene from The Works in Amherst.

A crowd gathers beside a pink tree near the estate of Emily Dickinson last weekend.

The reason was the return after restoration of two steel shadow-images meant to represent Amherst's poetic superstars, Miss Emily and Amherst College Professor Robert Frost, portrayed as if they were engaged in conversation.

In reality the two never met, with Frost being only 12 years old at the time of Dickinson's death in 1886. Still, the cut-outs are a popular stop for tourists to pose for photos.

This is the children's section of the Montague Bookmill

Hadley grass.

In Springfield's Tower Square/Baystate West there are these vending machines, tables and chairs tucked beneath the back staircase on the main floor.

This wall photo of a dock at sunset creates a nice effect.

The view from my seat.

Back alley classic.
