Media Disconnect

 What on Earth?

Springfield Police Officer Gregg Bigda was found not guilty yesterday on charges he mistreated three teenagers who were very sternly interviewed after stealing Bigda's unmarked vehicle from a Springfield pizza joint.

All I know about the case is what I heard in the media, in which Bigda was universally portrayed as obviously guilty and his conviction a foregone conclusion. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is now wondering what it was that the media left out of their coverage, but which inspired the jury to find Bigda innocent on all charges. Obviously the media coverage was incomplete.

Maybe the jurors will talk to the media in the coming days and explain their reasoning. One thing is for sure, the alleged "victims" must be very disappointed. Had Bigda been found guilty of even a single charge, the lawyers for the car thieves would immediately have launched a civil rights lawsuit demanding financial compensation. Now those beautiful six figure paydays they were counting on are slip-sliding away.
